Batik in the Park

This week, we met up at Roger’s Park in Beaumont for arts and crafts. We used pillow cases, gel glue and acrylic paint to create faux-batik prints and enjoy some fun in the sun. The kids drew their design onto the pillowcases with glue, then put it in the sun to dry. Once dry, we watered down some acrylic paint and painted all over – the more color, the better! When the paint was dry, popping it in the washing machine will remove the glue, leaving the places where the glue was nice and white (or blue, or whatever the background color was). It’s a fun and easy project that you can adapt to any lesson plan and age group. We had kids from age 2 through 14 working on their own projects and helping the younger ones with theirs.
